Annette Shure (USA)
Born and raised in Neu-Ulm, Germany, Dr. Schure attended Medical School at the University of Ulm in Germany. She continued her medical training with a Residency in Anesthesiology, Emergency Medicine and Intensive Care at the University of Ulm, followed by additional training in Adult Cardiac Anesthesia and then a 2-year fellowship at Children’s Hospital in Boston in Pediatric Anesthesia and Pediatric Cardiac Anesthesia. After a US residency in Anesthesiology at the University of Chicago, she returned to Boston to work at the New England Medical Center as a staff anesthesiologist with special interest in Pediatric and Pediatric Cardiac Anesthesia. In 2008 she joined the Cardiac Anesthesia group at Boston Children’s Hospital where she is currently practicing and serving as the Fellowship Director for Pediatric Cardiac Anesthesia. Her major interests and research focus is in pediatric cardiac anesthesia and education. She has written several text book chapters and lectured nationally and internationally on various topics in pediatric anesthesia.
Charles Coté (USA)
Professor Charles Coté is currently the Professor of Anesthesia (Emeritus) at the Harvard Medical School in Boston. He is the author of 75 peer-reviewed publications, 29 editorials, 88 book chapters and is the contributing author for 35 practice guidelines. In addition, he is the primary editor of A Practice of Anesthesia for Infants and Children (Sixth Edition), as well as a co-author of a Manual of Pediatric Anesthesia (7th Edition)
Ehrenfried Schindler (Germany)
Prof. Dr. Ehrenfried Schindler was elected to become the first Professor for Paediatric Anaesthesia in Germany on October 2019. Before that, he was the head of the department for Paediatric Anaesthesia and later Medical Director at the Children’s Hospital of Sankt Augustin in Germany. The German Paediatric Heart Centre was part of this Hospital. This heart centre was the leading institution within Germany for children with congenital heart defects. Prof. Schindlers main interest is care for critical ill children. His research focus on anaesthesia for children with congenital heart defects and the perioperative setting (Hirsch index 22). Additionally he was one of the pioneers in introducing ERAS (enhanced recovery after surgery) strategies and ultra-fast track anaesthesia after operations with cardiopulmonary bypass in Germany. Additionally he is a well-known lecturer on scientific meetings in Europe, member of the editorial board of the Journal “Pediatric Critical care Medicine, PCCM” and ad hoc reviewer for several leading international medical journals. He is married since 1988, has four children and one cute little granddaughter.
Paul Firth (USA)
Dr Paul Firth is Paediatric Anaesthesiologist whose main areas of academic interest include global health and disaster relief; pediatric anaesthesia, with a specific concentration on Sickle Cell Disease; and high-altitude physiology. The focus of his academic work centers on the lack of access to appropriate preventative and curative healthcare. As an academic anaesthesiologist, he has worked on solutions to these needs through collaborative projects that address the requirements for inter-disciplinary care of surgical patients.
He is a Paediatric Anaesthesiologist in the Department of Anesthesia, Critical Care and Pain Management, Massachusetts General Hospital, Boston; the Head of the Division of Community and Global Health at the MGH Department of Anesthesia; an Assistant Professor in Anesthesia at Harvard University; and an Affiliate of the Department of Global Health and Social Medicine of Harvard Medical School. Dr Firth is the author of multiple peer-reviewed and accredited clinical publications, presentations and courses.
Per-Arne Lönnqvist (Sweden)
Professor Per-Anne Lönnqvist is a professor of Paediatric Anaesthesia and Intensive Care, in the Department of Physiology and Pharmacology, Karolinska Institutet and Karolinska University Hospital, Stockholm, Sweden. Prof Lönnqvist is an Emeritus Editorial Board member of the BJA and Emeritus Section Editor of Pediatric Anesthesia. Honourary member of the APAGBI.
Prof Lönnqvist has published 166 medical articles and has, to date, published six finished PhD projects with four projects still on-going. His main areas of interest include neonatal anaesthesia, regional anaesthesia, alpha-2 adrenoceptor agonists, paediatric pain, peri-operative fluid and sodium homeostasis, drug and medtech development.
Vrushali Ponde (India)
Dr Vrushali Ponde is the Managing Trustee and Founder Secretary of the Academy of Regional Anaesthesia, India. She is also and Exco Committee Member and the Executive Secretary of the Asian Society of Paediatric Anaesthesiologists.
Dr Ponde currently works as a regional anaesthesiologist and paediatric anaesthesiologist in various institutions in Mumbai. She is also the program head of the WFSA-Children Anaesthesia services, ISA, Paediatric Regional Anaesthesia Fellowship, Mumbai. Dr Ponde has represented Indian perspectives on regional anaesthesia in various countries and is involved in international and national research programmes and has organised the ASPA 2017 International and National Conferences.
